Henri-Paul Lemaitre is a reputed member of the Brussels Bar, specialized in the fields of corporations, M&A and financial markets. His practice extends to litigation and arbitration in various sectors including sales, distribution and construction contracts. During nearly forty years, he has been directly involved in some of the major M&A transactions and Court litigation in Belgium, as well as international bankruptcy proceedings such as Banco Ambrosiano and BCCI cases. Since fifteen years, he developed an important practice as single arbitrator, co-arbitrator and chairman in many arbitration proceedings, ad hoc, ICC and UNCITRAL as well as CEPANI (in Belgium).

Henri-Paul Lemaitre is a reputed member of the Brussels Bar, specialized in the fields of corporations, M&A and financial markets. His practice extends to litigation and arbitration in various sectors including sales, distribution and construction contracts.

He started his career with the well-known “Van Ryn” law firm at the time, of which he was a member during nineteen years.

In 1989, he joined “Janson Baugniet” which is oldest law firm in Belgium, where he was responsible for the development of international relations as well as the corporations, M&A and financial law department.

During nearly forty years, he has been directly involved in some of the major M&A transactions and Court litigation in Belgium, as well as international bankruptcy proceedings such as Banco Ambrosiano and BCCI cases.

Ever since his first year as a member of the Brussels Bar, Henri-Paul Lemaitre was interested in arbitration, first as party counsel, subsequently as arbitrator. During the last fifteen years, he developed an important practice as single arbitrator, co-arbitrator and chairman in many arbitration proceedings, ad hoc, ICC and UNCITRAL as well as CEPANI (in Belgium).

He records some thirty seven years as an academic at the University of Brussels, starting as assistant Professor, teaching seminars in the fields of commercial law and commercial comparative law at the law faculty. Thereafter, he joined the reputed Solvay Business School, teaching business law at the Master in Management Program during twenty years.

During the last ten years, he also taught in Vietnam, taking International Business laws in the Master Program in General Management, alternatively at the Open University of Ho Chi Minh City, and the National Economics University in Hanoi. This gave him a good knowledge of Vietnamese culture, law and economics. In addition, he has travelled extensively in South East Asia, including Vietnam, Cambodia, Myanmar, Singapore as well as Australia.

Henri-Paul Lemaitre holds a Doctorate degree (1969) and a Special License in Economic Law degree (1974) from the University of Brussels. He is also credited of a Master of laws at Harvard Law School (1971) and Research Fellow at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor (1972).

He is the author of numerous contributions and is a frequent speaker in his various fields of practice.
