During the 12th Cauris d’Or, a prestigious Senegalese awards ceremony held this year on May 7, 2016 in Dakar, Benoit Le Bars had the honor to present the first Cauri d’Or award, the Cauri d’Or award for Peace, to human rights lawyer Assane Dioma Ndiaye.
Assane Dioma Ndiaye is the President of the Senegalese Human Rights League. He is recognized for his human rights activism and involvement in relation to rule of law and democracy. In 2014 he was elected permanent member of the Disciplinary Appeals Board of the International Criminal Court. He currently serves as Legal Counsel to the Association of Victims of the Hissein Habré Regime and as such, set up the first regional ad-hoc tribunal to judge a former-president in Africa.
